Are Americas New Torture Practices Discriminatory?

Be On Lookout…3:31 PM… September 11, 2001

“Vehicle possibly related to New York terrorist attack. White, 2000 Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration with ‘Urban Moving Systems’ sign on back seen at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ, at the time of first impact of jetliner into World Trade Center. “Three individuals with van were seen celebrating after initial impact and subsequent explosion. FBI Newark Field Office requests that, if the van is located, hold for prints and detain individuals.”

From the Bergen New Jersey Record September 12,2001…

“Bergen County detained five men who they said were found carrying maps linking them to the blasts. The five men, who were in a van stopped on Route 3 in East Rutherford around 4:30 p.m., were being questioned by police but had not been charged with any crime late Tuesday.”

“sources close to the investigation said they found other evidence linking the men to the bombing plot. “There are maps of the city in the car with certain places highlighted,” the source said. “It looked like they’re hooked in with this. It looked like they knew what was going to happen when they were at Liberty State Park.”

Well the men all turned out to be Israeli citizens allegedly working for Urban Moving Company. Urban’s owner an Israeli citizen named Dominick Suter abandoned his business and skedaddled back to Israel the day after his employees were arrested. The Israeli terrorists were clearly complicit in the attacks on 9/11. With Americans under attack the circumstances would seem to call for torture as proposed in the ticking time bomb scenario described by torture professor Alan Dershowitz. There is no evidence however that the Israelis held by the FBI who had monitored the hijackers for a year before the attacks were ever tortured to determine what they could tell us about this day of infamy.

Lets contrast these circumstances with the treatment of alleged Arab terrorist Abu Zubaydah. The tapes of his torture according to recent media reports was destroyed by our Government. He was believed to be involved in the attacks on the USS Cole and the planning of other attacks. He was held in secret prisons without trial and tortured repeatedly over his captivity. The information obtained in his torture was determined to be of little value.

Can we tolerate discriminatory torture in the land of the free and home of the brave. Clearly our governmental agencies are torturing in favor of suspected Arab terrorists over known Israeli terrorists. Discriminatory torture is not only immoral it is unjust. If America cannot torture in an even handed manner, I submit to you that our Government should not be torturing at all.
