The U.S and Israel: It’s a Gas Gas Gas

The deceptive, duplicitous, sanctimonious stance of the U.S. on chemical weapons is maddening.  There are any number of countries who have them but the hypocrisy of the U.S. and Israel stands out. So we’ll focus a little on them.

For years, rumors persisted that Israel was using or testing unknown chemical agents on Palestinian civilians. The rumors began to reveal their substance February 12, 2001, when Israel began a six-week campaign of “novel gas” attacks in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. By chance, American filmmaker James Longley arrived in Khan Younis, Gaza in the middle of the first attack. That afternoon he began filming the victims. His award-winning film, Gaza Strip, documents the naked reality of Israel’s chemical weaponry – the canisters, the doctors, the eyewitnesses, and the hideous suffering of the victims, many of whom remained hospitalized for days or weeks.

The February 12 gassing of neighborhoods in Khan Younis presaged the attacks that followed. When the gas canisters landed, they began to billow clouds of either white or black, sooty smoke. The gas was non-irritating and initially odorless, changing to a sweet, minty fragrance after a few minutes. One victim recalled, “the smell was good. You want to breathe more. You feel good when you inhale it.” The smoke often shifted to a “rainbow” of changing colors.

From five to thirty minutes after breathing the gas, victims began to feel sick and have difficulty breathing. A searing pain began to wrench their gut, followed by vomiting, sometimes of blood, then complete hysteria and extremely violent convulsions. Many victims suffered a relentless syndrome for days or weeks afterward, alternating between convulsions and periods of conscious, twitching, vomiting agony. Palestinians agreed: “This is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.”

Forty people were admitted to Al-Nasser Hospital “in an odd state of hysteria and nervous breakdown,” suffering from “fainting and spasms.” Sixteen gas patients had to be transferred to the intensive care unit. Doctors “reported the Israeli use of gas that appeared to cause convulsions.”

In 1993, the US Congress Office of Technology Assessment WMD proliferation assessment included Israel as a nation having undeclared offensive chemical warfare capabilities. In 1998, former Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Bill Richardson said:

“I have no doubt that Israel has worked on both chemical and biological offensive things for a long time. There’s no doubt they’ve had stuff for years.”

Israel tests new weapons in combat. Against Lebanon in 2006 and Gaza during Cast Lead, it used direct energy weapons, chemical and/or biological agents, and others producing injuries and symptoms medical professionals never previously saw.

For example, bodies with dead tissue had no apparent wounds. Corpses were found shrunken. Civilians had heavy lower limb damage requiring amputations. Nonetheless, unstoppable necrosis followed (death of cells and living tissue) followed by death.

Internal wounds had no trace of shrapnel. Corpses were blackened but not burned. Some badly wounded victims didn’t bleed. The Palestinian health ministry said Israel used a new type explosive in Gaza. It contained toxins and radioactive materials. They burned and tore victims’ bodies from the inside. They also left long term deformations.

A Palestinian doctor accused Israel of using chemical ammunition that burns and injures soft tissue, but can’t be traced by X-rays. Severe internal wounds were reported. Unknown gases believed to be nerve agents were used. Those affected lost consciousness for about 24 hours. They experienced high fevers and muscle rigidity. Some needed urgent blood transfusions.

In April 1948, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s founding father and first prime minister, wrote a letter to Ehud Avriel, one of the Jewish Agency’s operatives in Europe, ordering him to seek out and recruit East European Jewish scientists who could “either increase the capacityto kill masses or to cure masses; both are important.”

One of the scientists Avriel recruited was a 30-year old epidemiologist and colonel in the Red Army named Avraham Marcus Klingberg. In time, Klingberg became one of Israel’s leading scientists in the area of chemical and biological weapons (CBW). He was among the founding members and, subsequently, the deputy director of the Israel Institute of Biological Research (IIBR) in NessZiona, a dozen miles southeast of Tel Aviv.

The US Has No Credibility Dealing With Chemical Weapons

History: Agent Orange/Dioxin in Vietnam

The herbicides were sprayed over about 24 percent of southern Vietnam, destroying 5 million acres of upland and mangrove forests and about 500,000 acres of crops (a total area the size of Massachusetts). Of these areas, 34 percent were sprayed more than once; some of the upland forests were sprayed more than four times. One study found that 3,181 villages were sprayed as well. Areas of Laos and Cambodia near the Vietnam border were also sprayed.

Agent Orange: A lethal legacy – For U.S., a record of neglect

Memories of the Vietnam War are dimming, but veterans and Vietnamese nationals who were exposed to Agent Orange and other dioxin-laced defoliants are still experiencing devastating health effects, and birth defects have brought the impact into a second generation. Yet the U.S. government has yet to make full amends, either in the U.S. or overseas.

All of this only scratches the surface. We must also mention the chemical and biological warfare our own government has used and allowed to be used against the American people; fluoride, GM foods, deadly pharmaceutical drugs, aspartame, lab created diseases, adulterated and contaminated vaccines, etc.

Now we have….. The US secretary of state, John (Kohn) Kerry, has said that President Bashar al-Assad has one week to hand over his entire stock of chemical weapons to avoid a military attack.

If we were the great humanitarian state we suppose ourselves to be then we would say the same thing to Israel, Egypt, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia and several others.  We would also allow an independent coalition to round up all past and present war criminals, both here in the U.S. and elsewhere, for internationally sanctioned trials and punishment.     Don’t hold your breath.
